Bodie Island Lighthouse
Even without the beach and ocean, the Outer Banks has plenty of activities to keep you busy. From local history and nature, to aviation and maritime culture there are plenty of places near Ocean View Cottage where you can spend an afternoon or entire day.

Wright Brothers National Memorial
No visit to the Outer Banks is complete without a visit to the birthplace of aviation. Located in Kitty Hawk (Highway, Milepost 7.5), the complex includes a museum with a replica of their first airplane, reconstructed camp buildings, trail area and granite memorial.

Jockey's Ridge State Park
Jockey's Ridge is the tallest natural sand dune system in the Eastern United States. Located in Nags Head (Highway, Milepost 12), their park sponsors nature walks, kids' programs, hang-gliding, kite-flying, sand boarding, seining in the sound and much more.

Manteo and Roanoke Island
The town of Manteo, just across the sound from Ocean View Cottage, includes a wide array of fun activities. There's a great aquarium, the replica of the Elizabeth II, Fort Raleigh and the Elizabethan Gardens. And don't miss the Weeping Radish for some great beer and bratwurst!

Lighthouses
The Outer Banks has four fantastic lighthouses, all of which can be visited during your stay. The Bodie Island Lighthouse is a short 10-minute drive from Ocean View Cottage while the Cape Hatteras and Ocracoke Lighthouses are farther south. But to hit all four, you'll have to drive north of Corolla for the Currituck Lighthouse. You'll be rewarded with a climb to the top and panoramic views of the ocean and Pamlico Sound.
